At Wisedocs, we’re building a stellar team and we’re proud to introduce our team members across various departments through our Wisedocs’ Brain Power series. Recently, we introduced Anna Pilotti, HR Generalist. Today we will meet Michael Theodosiou, one of our Account Executives at Wisedocs. As an account executive, Michael plays a vital role in fostering relationships and supporting customers in understanding how Wisedocs can support their document processing needs.
Tell us about your career so far. How did you get to where you are today?
“I actually started out in the hospitality industry, working in a family business. Over the years, I worked my way up and eventually became a partner with my father who has been a huge influence in my life, instilling a strong work ethic and discipline in me from an early age.
After we eventually sold the business, I received an opportunity in Florida with a medical record retrieval company as an Account Executive. It was an amazing experience, allowing me to learn all aspects of the industry and work with many incredible people. One day, I came across a LinkedIn post about Wisedocs. After doing some research, I was blown away by what the company was building at the time and knew this was something I wanted to be a part of.”
How did you find Wisedocs and end up in the tech and startup world?
“Funny enough, I saw a mutual connection congratulating someone for joining the sales team at Wisedocs, which prompted me to check out the company page. After doing some research, I discovered they had an opening for an Account Executive position. While I wasn’t actively looking at the time, I was so intrigued by all the positive feedback about the company and the direction the industry is heading, particularly with AI and tech. I've always had a keen interest in technology and how SaaS products can solve bottlenecks within businesses. I thought to myself that if I could leverage my experience in the med/legal industry alongside my love for technology, it would be a perfect match.”
With the recent surge in the software as a service (SaaS) industry, its no surprise employees are looking to join organisations within this field. With more and more AI-driven technology companies popping up with solutions for organisations, these SaaS companies that once were a mere support to organisations, are now an integral part of operations. With the global SaaS market projected to reach $908.21 B by 2023 at a CAGR of 18.7%, it's no secret we are seeing a paradigm shift in the market.
“Startups are often at the forefront of innovation, and I want to be in an environment where I can push boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and help shape the future of the industry. I also love the collaborative spirit of startups; working closely with a smaller, dedicated team fosters creativity and a strong sense of camaraderie, which I find incredibly motivating.”
What makes you excited about Wisedocs? What are the challenges?
“What excites me most about Wisedocs is that every day brings something new. The members of our departments are incredibly talented and genuinely amazing people to work with. I know they are consistently hard at work, contributing to the ongoing success we've achieved here.
Moreover, what we’re doing is making a profound impact on the industry by empowering experts across various sectors to be more effective and efficient. While the industry can be slow to adapt to new processes, which sometimes poses barriers to entry, we place a strong emphasis on educating everyone we interact with. By prioritizing their needs and demonstrating how our platform can benefit them, we are helping to pave the way for meaningful change.”
Over the past year, Wisedocs has made some great strides. Kicking off the year by securing $12.7M in an oversubscribed Series A financing round, we’ve also seen some incredible recognition in the industry being selected as a Cloud 100 Rising Star and one of Canada’s Best Startup Employers by Forbes. With our recent growth, Wisedocs is continuing to make waves in the industry also being listed among CB Insights Insurtech 50 list, featuring the most innovative insurtech startups, and among the Fintech Global InsurTech 100 list, recognizing leading insurance solution innovators.
Give us a day in the life of an Account Executive: what’s your 9-5?
“A day in the life of an account executive can vary drastically, as catering to our clients' timelines and availability is always a priority. Whether it means working off hours or occasionally on weekends, I’m happy to put our clients’ needs first because I love what I do. I typically start my day by sending follow-ups from previous appointments and confirming meetings, which are usually followed by a series of discussions with various organizations. My focus is on understanding their unique challenges by listening to their concerns, ensuring they feel heard and valued. By collaborating closely with their teams, I identify key pain points and facilitate discussions that lead to actionable insights. Together, we develop strategic plans tailored to their specific needs, focusing on solutions that drive efficiency and effectiveness for their business.”
What’s an unexpected perk of being an Account Executive at Wisedocs?

It’s truly inspiring to be part of a team that celebrates each other’s successes and works together to overcome obstacles, turning our collective passion into impactful results.”

You work closely with clients, helping them understand how the platform supports organizational growth. In your opinion, which feature do you find most valuable for our clients, and why?
“I would say the most valuable features our platform offers is our robust keyword search function. When dealing with messy and unstructured documents, the ability to interact directly with the medical documents by asking questions, utilizing prompts, and extracting key information from the outputs is essential for maximizing productivity and efficiency. Each of these functions provides insight into what we've already compiled from a medical indexing and medical summary standpoint, while also allowing for a granular analysis of the records. This is particularly important because we understand that each area of expertise we service—whether it be insurance, legal, or medical—looks for different information in their reviews. Additionally, the variability of circumstances and intricacies associated with each claim, case, or evaluation further emphasizes the need for tailored solutions, which Wisedocs specializes in.
What strategies do you use to build strong client relationships and ensure their success?
“Rapport, rapport, rapport. Taking the time to learn about your clients personally and fostering authentic relationships beyond mere business transactions can make all the difference. Once that rapport is established, communication becomes seamless. Active listening and prioritizing our clients' needs are essential, as not everyone has the same desired outcomes with our platform. Tailoring solutions based on each individual use case is crucial. Throughout this process, I strive to build strong relationships rooted in trust and transparency, ensuring that we not only address their immediate challenges but also set them up for long-term success.”
When it comes to fostering relationships, the Wisedocs team does it best. A report by PwC reported that 73% of customers found that a positive experience with a business is a key factor in their purchasing decisions. This is why we strive to create meaningful customer experiences that filter throughout our team touchpoints, from sales, to implementation, and customer success, ensuring a seamless onboarding.
What advice would you lend to other account executives starting in the startup or tech industry?
“My key advice is to prioritize a strong work ethic and always be available for your clients. Understanding your product inside and out is crucial, but even more important is knowing how it fits into your clients' businesses and how it can directly benefit them. This requires continuous education and a commitment to hard work, as staying informed about industry trends and client needs allows you to tailor your approach effectively. By genuinely investing in your clients' success, you can build lasting relationships and drive meaningful results for both their business and yours.”
