At Wisedocs, we are building a stellar team and we are proud to introduce our team members over time through our monthly Wisedocs’ Brain Power series. Recently, we introduced you to Sonya Stang, our Medical Documentation Training Specialist. Today, we will meet Arlo Godel, our Implementation Specialist and a valuable member of the Wisedocs team. Arlo started on our Quality Assurance team and quickly took on more responsibility moving over to the Implementation team, where he is instrumental in building automated workflows. Arlo dives into his role at Wisedocs, how he structures his workday, and what excites him about being part of the Wisedocs Implementation team.

Tell us about your career so far. How did you get to where you are today?

“I did my undergraduate degree in medical sciences, with a focus on neuroscience. In my final year I took a course on neural networks, which got me interested in artificial intelligence and its applications. During university I worked for a medical consulting company, acting as a medical receptionist working with EMR systems and beginning my career with medical records. I also worked for a market research firm as a supervisor, where I learned to manage software systems and create and develop training and onboarding programs.  Wisedocs was an intersection of many fields I wanted to be a part of in, combining healthcare, technology and AI. At Wisedocs, I started as a Medical Record Specialist on our quality assurance team, before moving into my current Implementation Specialist role.”

Wisedocs places value on career growth, support, and everything our employees need to succeed and progress in their careers. We understand the importance and fulfillment that come from professional development, and we actively strive to support the career advancement of our employees like Eric Pham, who transitioned to Operations Supervisor, and Amy Mingopoulos who moved into the role of Marketing Coordinator. We're committed to empowering our team to unlock their full potential.

How did you end up in the tech and startup world?

“I have always been interested in technology from a young age, working tech-based jobs since high school where I ran a content creation channel. When I got a chance to work as a supervisor for a market research firm, I learned to manage software systems and create and develop training and onboarding programs and that was my start in tech.”

The startup world was brought to me by a family member who did a similar undergrad degree. She advised that if I got the chance to work for a startup, to take it, and Wisedocs was my opportunity!”

What makes you excited about Wisedocs?

“We have an amazing team with amazing ideas who are all extremely passionate about what we do. Since I started working here a little over a year ago, I have already seen some incredible growth within the company and improvements with our product. I think for us it’s only a question of time, we have a solid vision and are working towards executing it for our clients.”

Give us a day in the life of an Implementation Specialist: what’s your 9-5?

“I start my day by checking my client dashboard to see what stage all my onboarding clients are in their implementation process. I then identify which clients have configuration work remaining, and plan out which pieces I will tackle today. After we often have our implementation standup, where we review our current tasks, anything we need support on, and what we’re looking forward to. The rest of my day is filled with building client workflows, coming up with solutions to improve clients outputs, and having meetings with clients to align on output expectations and help train them on the platform.”

What’s an unexpected perk or challenge (or both) of being an Implementation Specialist?

“I was the first full-time team member on the implementation team, so I have gotten the opportunity to create a lot of our processes from the ground up. It was a challenge at the beginning as we did not have processes in place yet for many of the tasks I’m responsible for. This is also a perk though, as I get to provide my input and help optimize the work that I do and feel like I’m really making a difference.”

What part of the Wisedocs product are you most proud to have worked on, to date?

“I am most proud of my work on our medical record summary product offering. I have worked on many aspects of the summarizer component, but most of my time has been spent creating our prompting lists across our client base. I have also been lucky enough to work very closely with the product and development teams on improving our summarizer software, helping to lead us through a schema overhaul to greatly improve our efficiency.”

You’ve been fortunate to work on and with different teams across Wisedocs, what do you think is the most important quality to have when working collaboratively with others?

“Being open-minded and organized. When receiving ideas and suggestions from so many departments, I need to be able to accept other people’s inputs, while also being able to identify what are the most important pieces to focus on and devote my time to.”

At Wisedocs, we aim to nurture a collaborative and supportive team environment. We take pride in our welcoming workplace and culture, and we are happy to share that we have been certified as a Great Place to Work® for a third consecutive year!

Being on the Implementation team you work closely with our customers; what feature do you find they are most excited about?

“Currently I think our automated workflows get the most attention and praise. Our client's main goal is to be able to locate the pertinent information for them in a medical file as quickly as possible, and our biggest value is our configurability and tailoring to customer needs. Workflows tackle both of these areas, taking large amounts of medical records and organizing them into structured indexes by chronology, provider & type of document, and removing miscellaneous, duplicate & co-mingled records.”

Wisedocs’ automated workflows utilize key terms and cutting-edge AI technology within the index and summaries, to be able to organize records into the desired outcome. Our team makes it easy to adjust, modify, or update your desired workflows and outputs. Our platform's configurability means that these workflows do not need to fit into predefined templates. Instead, they can be customized to align with your unique requirements and preferences, offering a highly flexible approach to your document management.

You recently won our first ever PHIT Award for the category of ‘Intelligence’, highlighting our company’s values. What does this accolade mean to you?

“This award means a lot to me, as I’m surrounded by such knowledgeable people, so to be selected for this PHIT award by my peers shows the value those around me feel like I bring to Wisedocs. One of the things I love most about working here is that I’m allowed to be myself and follow my passions, and I think the room for growth we’re given here is what has allowed me to show off my skills and make the impact that I have. The intelligence award specifically also means a lot, as I have spent a lot of time working on my technical skills.”

At Wisedocs, we are always looking for talented individuals like Arlo to join our growing team and make a positive impact on the claims ecosystem. Visit our careers page and explore our open roles!
